A New Resto - Maximo's

August 25, National Heroes Day
we celebrated by eating out - Alice and Manny, and i

at Maximo's who was having a soft opening -
i believe this resto is along E. Rodriguez Jr.  - but see we were chatting and i lost track of driving -
Manny's driving, that is

we had baby octupi, iberian chicken, and slow roasted belly, and unusual buchi
the unusual buchi is pretty good, try it.

the cook there must love Balsamic Vinegar - just like Kat - the female Iron Chef
because i could taste it.

Resto Rating from 1-10, maybe a 7?

edit::::
i think this is along Katipunan, not E. Rod Jr.

A goodreads quote - you have to go out and meet the dragon sometimes...

a paraphrase of Milne's quote .... i love the Pooh characters - Winnie, Pig, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Roo, .....
you have to find your own enchanted forest and your own others ,,,
and dont make them like Puff ....

You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.

August 21, 1920: A.A. Milne and his wife thought that their baby was going to be a girl. When he emerged a boy, the parents chose a new name for him—Christopher Robin. It would be popularized in Milne's many Winnie-the-Pooh stories of a boy and his bear.

To Sayans - Batch 75

I recently had time to see FB posts on the Philippine Science group.  Altthough my batch does post in that group sometimes, we tend to be quite insular  in our communications and post in our batch group instead where posts sometimes fly - back and forth -

Bragging rights.  Seems to have a lot of bragging about respective batches
From batchmates "without Kupas" or talented ones or honored ones

What can i say?  maybe that our batch has no need to brag?

we seem to be quite happy with who and what we are NOW, as we were then
Hmmm, that sounds like bragging, and i really do not mean to brag

I recently had a short email conversation with Gorbo Kintanar, a classmate now based in the US.  I think that as part of our personal growth and in pursuit of fulfilment of our dreams - as we conceive them to be, we - as classmates - went off on our own - to study, pursue our careers, fall in love, fall out of love, find other friends, find extraordinary persons who have lit our eyes, and won our respect - and then, on-and-off, come to meet to reaffirm our ties - as batchmates and friends.

As batchmates, we differ in the degree of our closeness to each other, we are sometimes closer to some than to others, but there are, definitely, strong ties.among all of us

I am very proud of our batch - not just in the achievements individually the batch members have reached and turned into reality, but those the batch have joined together to achieve.  I am particularly proud of our ties to each other

here are the names of the graduating class of 1975

A Goodreads Quote- on Eating and Reading

Readers of this world, Unite!
Dont you agree?  Such a pleasure to read, and to read while enjoying another lavish pleasure - eating
Yes, luxury to the max.  A wonderful drink also adds to the pleasure.

There is nothing more luxurious than eating while you read; unless it be reading while you eat. Amabel did both: they are not the same thing, as you will see if you think the matter over.

Prolific author E. Nesbit (born August 15, 1858) is best known for The Railway Children, The Story of the Treasure Seekers, and Five Children and It. She is also one of the founders of the Fabian Society, which laid the groundwork for the current Labor Party in the UK.

Food Notes --- Bahay Kubo at Maginhawa

Their specialty is Bulalo and Ulo-ulo

two dishes i rather like so ever since i saw the sign ... i've been wanting to eat there...
see we go to Tagaytay to have satisfying Bulalo - which is rather far

the place is small and feels like the old-fashioned carinderias that we find in Manila (or Quiapo)
simple tables, plain chairs, with no particular ambiance.

the food though tastes like home cooking, not as good as my mom's or my lola's who had excellent cooking skills (oh yes, i still remember the taste of all the food they've ever cooked except Dinuguan, Kilawin Librillo, and the Lungs dish - i dont eat any of these dishes)

we - had dinner with Alice and Manny - who were celebrating their wedding anniversary (14 August) a day ahead - had 2 servings of tawilis - nicely crispy so we ate it like chicharon, bulalo and ulo-ulo of course, bistek tagalog (i thought it needed a few more onions), and chicken curry.

not much choice for desert so we   stopped by etc. for some bubble tea.

it was one of those nice cool evenings

On the 5% increase in the SSS pension due this August 2014

Pensioners who checked their pension differential found out early last Monday that only the August increase was included in the bank deposit and called the office of SSS's VP of Public Affairs, Ms. Marissu Bugante.

She said that differential will also be deposited this August, but will not necessary be deposited as the August pension.  Pensioners are advised to wait for the June-July differential.

The Philippine Science High School is turning Gold

and it is time to retrieve the memories ....... where is your grad picture?

this is my grad picture .....

My friend Alice sent me this picture of my first year classmates (incidentally, you can find this picture in our yearbook). I was in Neptune and Ms. Evaline Gerochi was our class adviser.  This picture was taken as a reminder of  a class project under literature with teach Ms. Carmencita Alcid who later on became Ms. Mamao, if i have the spelling right.  First year - in the quad, Marcos-type building, where it was easy to spot anyone and everyone.  Efren Abaya who was 4th year then could usually be found playing ping-pong. :)
Efren is the older brother of our batch-mate, Bernie who is now in Texas

I am not sure if that is Cesar Samaniego or Robert Hizon behind Rollie Angeles

the Teach, Rosel, Willie, Vic (+), Bobby, Dp, someone, Rollie, Cindy, Marivic, Kay, Baba. Dale
Rene, Apollo, Ariel, Benjie (+), Ed Roque, Ces, Guia

A Goodreads quote - Rebelling and Conforming ...

Learn the rules, break the rules, make up new rules, break the new rules.

Happy 77th birthday, Marvin Bell! The celebrated poet taught for four decades at the Iowa Writers Workshop.

Sometimes, it is time to rebel and test the limits ......merely conforming can be as idiotic as merely rebelling

A Goodreads quote - what we inadvertedly teach the children

Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.

August 2, 1943: The day author James Baldwin turned 19, he attended his stepfather's funeral and witnessed the start of a riot in Harlem. He wrote about all these events in his book of essays, Notes of a Native Son.

*****
perhaps one of the reasons children of abusers also become abusers....... see, they think that it is okay to abuse because they see it being done and being condoned.  It is also okay to be abused because it is commonplace in their lives.

so we must also do what we say, because we are the shining - i hope - examples for the children;
not just our own, but all the children
