Happy Thanksgiving to all

today is a day, tradition in the USA, to say thanksgiving

its origins, i recall from grade school readings, come from when the Brits left England to settle in the New World and were faced with the cold of winter and the scarcity of food. Native Americans, i forgot the tribe (could they be Seqouians?) came over to give them maize, and other great food

and so, thanksgiving.

so have a good one.
now i am hankering for some turkey .......

Happy Halloween everyone

It is the All Hallow's Eve, meaning All Saint's Eve

so monsters, unless they are Pixar-type monsters (aka the Good Monsters) arent really the perfect costumes
however, as a friend Cynch said, one must be costumed as religious figures

i said, isnt that being a little too assuming about being good?
you would consider worthy to dress up an angel, or for that matter a Saint?

and i just cant.

so i am dressing up as a superhero.  Not a monster, but a good guy, and not a perfect one
after all, superheroes dont have to be perfect.  they can be flawed

sort of fits, right?

will post pictures tomorrow, most likely, or at least during the weekend.

a fairy was another choice.  see i have a twinkly dress with a twinkly headdress, but i wore it in one of the Halloween events already.

another choice was Peanuts Linus's the Great Pumpkin.  I had a long orange dress for the pumpkin colors, and a green headdress for the leafy accouterments

haha.

those of you who cant visito the graves of their loved ones to please remember they can light candles at home (or in church) and pray anywhere

Last working day before the Christmas month

just want to wish everyone a good 3-day weekend.

it will be the first Sunday of Advent this Sunday, so if you are hip into Christmas, there are 4 candles in the wreath, one for each Sunday of Advent, 3 of them are violet,1 pink (for Gaudete, or Joy, the 3rd Sunday), and a white candle that is lit on Christmas day, the white candle is also called the Christ candle.

i dont have any Christmas decor, except for one Parol, but i hope to catch up this weekend.
i use foil to "light" the candle on the wreath.

happy 3-day weekend, and decorating too!

Gifts for Christmas - another Etsy shop

i got an elephant from her.  then i saw this Hobbes creation.
i know someone who just adores Waterson's "Calvin and Hobbes" but we no longer talk.

still, if you have an SO who likes Hobbes or some other cute creatures.
women have a weakness for such stuff.  strong, dominant women, even.

A whimsy post - an Etsy shop of Uncommon Creatures

i get mail from etsy shops.  this was one of the shops i got in my email today.
i collect elephants and i found the elephant in this shop gorgeous.  she has won awards.
i can hardly wait for my own.

do peruse her shop.  she has some of of the most amazing creatures.
so if you know someone who has all the money in this world (like Bill Gates, or Warren Buffet, or the Sultan of ......, or maybe the Marcoses for local flavor) and you cant think of a present, you may want to take a gander at this shop.  remember, you can have yours customized.  Or pick one that is existing and make little changes to make it your own.  a wonderful shop.

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends in the USA

Happy Thanksgiving.

It would be wonderful if every country took a day off from toil to say Thank you to their Creator, or if they were atheists, to say thank you to a still beautiful world.  As we use the US thanksgiving day to say our thank yous, may all of us be reminded that the world can only remain beautiful if we do our part to keep it so.

I hope we all do our part.

Long Weekend up ahead. odds-and-ends

wishing everyone a safe and relaxing weekend.

i shall spend mine cleaning up after the storms, habagats (monsoon rains), and what-have-you
also, i need to donate clothes.  just a matter of where (or to whom).
i have a choice of church, the office, the chapel at work. or simply people i know who might need them.

those of you who work in the government sector, check your office if you are allowed 5 days off to handle monsoon damages to home and "family".  This 5 day leave will not be charged to your vacation leave.

those of you going out of town - and if you take maintenance pharmaceutical drugs, remember your cache of medications. some medications are out-of-stock so take inventory.

my friend Jerry Obaldo - he is a nuclear med specialist/physician - discuss drug inventory levels.
the more, the better?  not necessarily.  i think at least week supply - before one buys again is a good idea.
of course if the medication is for "testing", then a few days will suffice.  but this is something that patients have to think of......
