today is a day, tradition in the USA, to say thanksgiving

its origins, i recall from grade school readings, come from when the Brits left England to settle in the New World and were faced with the cold of winter and the scarcity of food. Native Americans, i forgot the tribe (could they be Seqouians?) came over to give them maize, and other great food

and so, thanksgiving.

so have a good one.
now i am hankering for some turkey .......

It is the All Hallow's Eve, meaning All Saint's Eve

so monsters, unless they are Pixar-type monsters (aka the Good Monsters) arent really the perfect costumes
however, as a friend Cynch said, one must be costumed as religious figures

i said, isnt that being a little too assuming about being good?
you would consider worthy to dress up an angel, or for that matter a Saint?

and i just cant. 

so i am dressing up as a superhero.  Not a monster, but a good guy, and not a perfect one
after all, superheroes dont have to be perfect.  they can be flawed

sort of fits, right?

will post pictures tomorrow, most likely, or at least during the weekend.

a fairy was another choice.  see i have a twinkly dress with a twinkly headdress, but i wore it in one of the Halloween events already.

another choice was Peanuts Linus's the Great Pumpkin.  I had a long orange dress for the pumpkin colors, and a green headdress for the leafy accouterments

haha. 

those of you who cant visito the graves of their loved ones to please remember they can light candles at home (or in church) and pray anywhere

Happy Mother's Day....

to all moms, would-be moms, and those that are-were like moms

how do you show someone  you love them?

mainly by being there - to discuss things, to assist when needed, to argue when necessary, and to hug
i loved hugging my mom.  she was smaller than me and that made it just perfect for hugs

we filipinos arent into saying i love yous, we are more into doing ...

my mom is a great cook, and it gave me pleasure to treat her to great food she didnt cook
especially her  favorite kakanin
or buy a dress she would look good in but didnt need

she would say it especially on my birthday by cooking pancit palabok
her palabok is the best i have ever had - par excellance bar none - same as my lola's

New Year - A Blessed 2013 to ALL

bread, coke, sparkling grape juice, mead, quezo de bola

the fruit salad, the cheese pimiento (queensland butter, quezo de bola, relish, pimiento), Santi's sweet ham, the Provident sliced ham, the NY quezo de bola, veg ham, embo

more of the same, plus the roast beef with potatoes, carrots, bellpeppers

with my soup - malagkit with tripe, luya, kasubha, young onions

Drinking, eating, and there's my turkey

New Year Noche Buena.  I was in bed reading until the clock struck 15 before midnight and then i opened all the lights (a tradition at home) and then  i set the table, and  ate and drunk.  Then i cleaned up.  Read some more until about 2am. went to sleep and then woke up, went thru my ablutions, then to mass.

27 Days to Christmas

I was walking and saw this sign

and well, i paused and thought about Christmassy things

well - i posted on my journal to ask my e-friends if they wanted cards

this year, i am rather busy, but will attempt to make my own cards and to "force" myself

i bought some digital images, some of it art - to frame and hang, some of it elephants...

i do have most of my Christmas gifts ready. I shop the entire year so i wont have to rush by Christmas, but i still have to wrap them (if i run out of time, i will put them in gift bags)..

I do NOT have any Christmas decorations yet!!

I shall do it this coming weekend, whether or not the painting of the rooms (just mine, really and the bathrooms) are done.  i do have to have the curtains done!  ah well, we will see. will report to you.

i have planned my Christmas dinner, my birthday (which falls right smack between Christmas and New Year), and New Year. i have partly shopped for it.  i dont know if i can still have Excelente Ham.  I cant go to Quiapo, you see........

maybe i should start putting them in Christmas bags......

What, you would say, has that got to do with Filipinos?
Very simple, like the Americans, we are a nation of many different parts - we have regional characteristics and sometimes these traits serve to divide us as a nation.  I say pooh to that.  We, like them, must come together as a people, and move for the greater good.

While we celebrate our differences - variety is THE spice of life - we must also be as one.
Let us make change for the better.

Angel Art

The Christening.  Guardian Angel assigned.  Art work by Amihan.

This is the art work of Amihan Abueva who is a friend and classmate.  Here, she uses the quilling technique.  She produced a series of Angel pieces, one she gave me as a gift, and this i bought.

I gave this as a baptismal gift to PJ, the beautiful daughter of Amanda and Matthew. 

In my own interpretation of this art piece, the Angel is bringing the gifts associated with PJ.  Love is represented by the hearts, and money by the coins.  The scroll starts out with the meaning of her name, and like Sleeping Beauty, the other gifts are enumerated.
