Katulong Blues - a warning

By its very term, a katulong (or helper) is one that is supposed to make life and work easier.
Keep that in mind as you read this particular post.

Beware of a day help with initials NB.  She is a big woman, rather clumsy,
She also has a tendency to disparage others - including her superiors to make herself look better
She used to help out but because she is lazy, she almost killed me.
Using police parlance, it would be Homicide.

What happened, you wonder?  Once upon a time, i was at work and she went to work.  The lady who irons for me supervised her.  Otherwise she (NB) would not have been in the house.

Well, she mopped the floor and because there was a spot that was difficult to clean, she concocted a chemical stew that was composed of water, lysol, zonrox,  and another strong cleansing agent.  Must have been vitriolic.  At any rate, she didnt completely rinse the floor and to make a long story short, i slipped.

i am disabled so i am careful about walking. if she had rinsed the floor completely, i wouldnt have slipped.

i confronted her the next time she went to the house.... and this is what she said.

ay sorry po.  nakalimutan kong banlawan ng husto.

can you imagine that?

actually, she was just too lazy to fully rinse the floor 

i am also particular about not mixing usage of things
rags used for tabletops are NOT used for the floors, and vice-versa
i have told her these a gazillion times - and she keeps saying she forgot
i have since concluded that she is merely lazy

i had told myself not to allow her to help anymore but she has a daughter who has a serious illness
and i sympathized with her plight - and after that she only mopped the floors with water
BUT
she told me i was the only one who would reprimand her everytime.
and that she was only helping because she hadnt found anyone else to go to....
so i told her to depart and never darken my doorstep

so, if she is now working for you, watch out - she just may kill your loved ones

Some points on the salary loan program

There have been queries on a so-called "third salary loan" on the SSS salary loan program

First of all, the salary loan benefit is NOT a right, unlike most of the benefits of SSS.
Rights are inalienable* (see below) and the salary loan is NOT..

a new loan is one wherein there is no outstanding loan.  you can make a series of new loans, without distinguishing it as the first, second, or third (or etc) loan for as long as there
a renewal is one wherein there is an outstanding balance.

an SSS member can only have 1 (one) existing loan (that is, an open loan) at any one time so a "third loan" seems weird

Abueva - The Power of Form - Exhibit at the Met

Last Saturday, National Artist Napoleon Abueva celebrated his 84th birthday at the Metropolitan Museum at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas located along Roxas Boulevard.

I considered myself lucky to be invited.  I was also invited at the opening, but i was indisposed and couldnt make it - so i found myself doubly lucky to make it to his birthday.  The "full" exhibit ended last month, the 31st of January.  The bigger pieces has since been returned to the owners - some to the Abuevas, a few to the Consunjis.  As a matter of fact, someone told me that Mrs. David M. Consunji was the lady in white lace.  Most of the Consunji art works were abstracts - and as i viewed them with a great deal of pleasure, i felt the power of motion expressed in the abstracts.  They were mostly bas-relief 

i loved the carabaos, but my favorite piece - the black glossy family of 3 that was roughly half a mil was simply not there, i looked for it and asked my friend and classmate if it had been sold but she wasnt sure

i liked the bust of my friend Amihan, the eldest of his kids - and that of Duero, the youngest son.

my friend Alice likes the Judas kiss, the surface of this piece reminds me of the Easter Island heads.

i love the circular slatted room, and if i were lavishly rich, i'd have it near the pool, but protected from the elements.  you would know why if you had seen it.

i also would buy the doors, if i had a castle or mansion to showcase it.  lovely doorway - a gateway to beauty and spiritual peace.

btw, it isnt too late to see some of them, only the larger pieces have been removed.  you can still view the smaller items - 

the Met is open Mondays-Saturdays.  Go see it, and maybe buy a few, especially if you can afford it
