Have you stopped paying your SSS contributions? You can continue - no sweat

i was discussing SSS contributions with my taxi driver at lunch today.   he was saying that he wanted to continue paying his contributions - but as a voluntary member but couldnt, because he couldnt find someone who was willing to discuss things with him.  he wanted to be a voluntary member because his employer, the cab company declined to pay his contributions.  i cannot remember the cab company so i cannot report this to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) office.

so i just said that it would be easy to continue paying.  just pay using the RS-5 form, tick the box beside Voluntary Member and sign the declaration of earnings stating that - that is the your monthly salary credit (MSC) amount that you would pay.

i also discussed the same issues with a fellow patient - we were both waiting for NKTI Cardiologist Dr. Joseph Michael  Jaro.  I also told the fellow patient that the salary loan condonation was ending 30 September 2012 and to take advantage and pay!

Click here for the editable RS-5 form
Click here for the normal RS-5

may i say again that please try to pay the highest MSC that you can afford.
the maximum MSC at this point is 15,000.00 with a contribution payment of 1,560.00
1,560 = 104 X 15.  The contribution rate is currently at 104 pesos per thousand MSC.

so ulitin ko lang po.  Kung gusto ninyong ituloy yung inyong pagbayad ng SSS contributions bilang isang volunteer member, magbayad at gamitin ang SSS form RS-5 at i-check lamang yung VM box, at pirmahan yung inyong kita. magbayad sa opisina ng SSS para madaling ma post at makita nyo.

i will try to put the form but again this blog when not done at home has issues with mozilla.
if it doesnt take, click on any of the links to see the form

UPDATE TO THE POST: 02/18/2014  ==>  LET ME REITERATE.  SSS DOES NOT ACCEPT RETROACTIVE PAYMENTS. IF YOU FAIL TO PAY, THERE WILL SIMPLY BE A GAP IN PAYMENTS, BUT YOU CAN CONTINUE PAYING.

UPDATE:  22 AUGUST 2014

Effective 1 September, a new form will be used for payments.  Please see to it that you are using the new form to do payments.

Just pay your contribution and dont forget to define your MSC.  Your MSC should at least be at the same level as your last.  DO NOT LOWER YOUR MSC if you can help it.

  2. you need 120 months to qualify for a pension, if you havent reached 120, you can still continue paying your contributions as voluntary member. in fact, i urge you to do so.

your membership does not lapse. it entitles you to funeral benefits and a lump sum benefit if you dont qualify for a pension.

    3. if you will continue paying for your sss, pay either at the same level of MSC or higher. You can pay monthly or quarterly, it does not matter as long as you pay on time.

you cannot pay retroactively, so if you miss or are late for a payment, it becomes a gap.

    1. maternity benefits and loans are only for ACTIVE MEMBERS.
active members are paying members. so unless you start paying again, you cannot get these short term benefits.

you should continue paying so that you would qualify for a pension. 120 monthly contributions determine eligibility for pensions

Salamat.God bless

    1. yes. pwedeng ipatuloy ang sss contributions ninyo as voluntary member, at pwede kayong magfile as OFW since overseas naman kayo. may mga advantages. pwedeng paayos ninyo sa mama ninyo, bigyan nyo lang ng authorization letter. she can pay for your debts and pay your contributions. however, you have to be present at least once to file your retirement. then your pension will just go to the bank.
sulat uli kayo pag kulangg ang aking sagot

I've been employed before and my SSS contribution has been on and off because of change of employers and now since I am self employed, I've changed my SSS status to VM.

60 otherwise.
      5. approximately 40% of 1,560

the sss rule is - you must have paid at least contributions for 3 months within the 12--month period immediately preceding the semester of childbirth.

the semester of children is the first semester of 2014. the 12-month period immediately preceding the first semester of 2014 is the year 2013. your last payment was 2012.

      therefore, you are not qualified

Would greatly appreciate your advise. Thanks po!

    1. the law says you as householder are obliged to pay for your kasambahay, that is your kasambahay is your employee.
you are saying she will be tagged in SSS as Self Employed. i caution you that this is NOT in compliance with the law. The Kasambahay Law says that the Employer must pay for PhilHealth, Pag-ibig, and SSS.

The member can update her records anytime and updates need not be done before payment.

  33. I've worked in PLDT from 1989-1998 having 107months contribution and My contribution stop on 1998 when I migrated to US and now that I am back here in the Philippines I would like to continue doing voluntary contribution. I went to SSS and I was shocked to find out that I have an existing loan of 10,000.00 on 1994 that went up to 65,000 bec of penalty and interest. What's bothering me is that how come there was no payment made for that loan even a single sentavo if that was made on 1994 and My contribution only stopped on 1998? That could have been paid already on 1996 if by any chance I really made a loan since I was still employed 'til 1998. Am I a victim of those inactive SSS that they have been using? What can I do to clear this?

    ReplyDelete
  34. well, you can ask SSS to investigate and the same time since PLDT is still in existence, you can also ask PLDT for proof of payment. Your payslips could also be used as proof of payment.

it could also be a posting error - as in your payment was not posted to your account because of an error.

You can direct your complaints to the Member Relations Department

It is also possible that PLDT forgot to deduct.from your pay

I just got back to work this year 2014 and plan to have my employer continue the contribution for me. I would just like to ask what do I need to do to have this kind of setup for me or do I need to sign any specific form so that my new employer will know where to start my payments again and how much my previous employer has already paid back for the loan?

    Thank you.

    1. so, you havent made any payments towards your loan? get a statement of account (SOA) from any branch, or since you have a new job, register on line and then generate a SOA. Since loans are 2 years to pay, you are in 2nd year of payment.

if you immediately pay all arrears then the penalties would also stop upon payment. If you cannot pay the arrears, you can ask your employer to deduct from your pay a larger amount than was was initially computed so that the arrears can be also paid soonest.

you are supposed to tell your new employer the amount you wish deducted.

also do not use the word contribution to mean payment of the loan. contribution is used primarily for paying the govt mandated SSS premiums -

I want to continue as VM but it has been 10 months since nung last payment ko ng contribution. As I read sa mga replies nyo, I can only continue my contribution from current month onwards. My question po is, what will happen s mga nacontribute ko during my past 7 years as member? if I apply for a loan or if I retire, will they consider my past contributions para mas mataas ung amount na makukuha ko? o totally back to zero po lahat?

    1. of course. your records will be in SSS. i suggest that you enroll yourelf in the SSS website so you can see your contributions and reassure yourself that all your contributions are present and accounted for. yes, they will be considered. however, for loans, there is a further qualification that requires current contributions and you must be an active member to avail of loans.

what i mean by current month onwards is that there are no retroactive payments.

Maiinclude po ba ito sa required na 120 months contribution to be able to receive the pension in the future. Im planning to be active again as a voluntary member sa sss since i was not able to pay contributions after i stopped working to present.
Do i just have to use the r5 form and pay as voluntary member sa accredited bayad centers? Meron kase na accredited bayad centers na nagaaccept ng sss payments since malayo ang Sss branch in my area. Ty

    1. the question really is - why do you want a pension?
the normal answer is - so that you would have a steady source of income when you are old

the longer you pay at the same MSC, the higher the pension. the higher the MSC, the higher the pension.

i suggest that you continue paying so that your pension will be high, and believe me, that high wont even be enough by the time you retire unless you augment it by your own retirement arrangements

Now he decides to stay for good dito at nag freelance nalang. He wants to be an active member again. What should be his next best move po?

  60. Hello Ma'am Guia,
I was hired in the year 2007. One of the requirements is to be an SSS member, so that the HR-Head can put contributions based on my salary. I saw the deductions in my salary slip so I assumed that part of my salary really went there. Unfortunately, I quit the job and my employer stopped paying. Do I have to pay a penalty because I stopped giving contributions for years?
Also, for years now, I am working as a freelancer. As such, my salary or fee-per-project varies. Sometimes it is big, sometimes average, sometimes a little only. I am confused as to how I will pay. If I will opt for VM, may I pay any amount to my liking (like bahala nalang ako mag decide ng contribution kung P500 or P1000 lang)? Do I have to undergo process of switching from Employed to VM? Last nalang po, may I pay in any Bayad centers without having to go to SSS - that is, may I pay in these Bayad Centers without having to clarify with SSS about my salary predicament and switching to VM?
    Maraming salamat po. God bless!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. simpler to be VM. you have to set your own Monthly Salary Credit by filling up the amount on the RS5 - effectively certifying the amount. The higher the better of course, and no penalty for the times you had no payment.

no need to go to SSS for as long as you certify the amount. check out the form

  80. Hi maam.

Tapos mag pay uli to complete 120 contribution?

  83. Hi, like to ask if i can avail the maternity benefit. Stopped contribution after i resigned 5 yrs ago . Since then, d ko na natuloy mag hulog. Gusto ko sana hulugan ung sss ko ending with no 3 sa sss no. Pwede ko ba start hulugan ung last quarter from oct - dec 2014? Due date is on july 2015. Nakalagay pa sa status from sss online employed, if i pay using voluntary form sa sss branch, automtic magchange ung status ko to voluntary? No need to submit any documents anymore since almost 5 yrs na kong di nagwowork.

    1. if you have 120 months, then yes, you are already qualified for a pension at age 60 if you are no longer employed.
however, you should continue to enable yourself to have a larger pension, and at the same time enjoy active benefits

  88. Good day po ma'am, active member po ako since 2002 up to 2007. Nagpatransfer ako to voluntary last year lang po, nagpachange name at pinactivate ulit. Nung tsinek ko online yung contributions ko.. nagreflect lang yung payments ko last year.. wala yung 2002 to 2007, ibig sabihin ba nun..di na counted yung previous contributions ko or null and void na siya dahil sa tagal ko di nagbabayad ng sss. Thank you po..

    1. no. i suggest you go to sss and have your contributions checked, bring all your duly stamped payment slips and submit photocopies so that these contributions will be posted.
also, are you sure your payments are correct?
some payments with errors are not posted until corrected

  89. Good Day po Ma'am. Please help me. I'm a self employed member sa SSS & now due to my financial issues, hindi po ako nakaka-contribute monthly. Nag.relapse or stopped lang po ako nang contribution like a month or three months. Ang alam ko hindi ako makaka.acquire nang mga benefits for that relapse at hindi ko na din mababayaran yun for the retroactive policy. My question is would that affect my retirement/pension, I mean can I credit the amount I contributed to SSS before my relapse, counted pa ba yun, kasi sabi nang mga kakilala ko because I have relapse payment hindi na daw ma.crecredit yung previous contribution ko for pension (not really sure pero they kinda based this with GSIS policy, sabi nila) and my current continuous monthly payment lang ang ma.credit. Thanks po.

    1. you mean lapse, not relapse.
the number of payments will affect your pension computation of course.
you do not do the crediting, sss does the posting. all posted contributions affect pension computations, particularly if this is not yet near the pension start date
